Kolkata Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s dream of turning Kolkata into London will remain a distant one till the city gets rid of its clogged drains.

A report prepared by a nine-member expert committee chaired by Principal Secretary of Irrigation Department has concluded that the city has to stop dumping of medical wastes and plastic bags that cause clogging of water outlets. It also highlighted that most of the water outlets have been clogged with overgrowth of water hyacinth, besides encroachment of canals.
